Swimming the English Channel

Graham Hill came to me with the goal of swimming the English Channel. The previous year he had attempted Lake Windermere two way, after feeling like he had trained well he soon realised that his nutrition let him down and struggled to fuel his body sufficiently and as a result did not complete the swim.

He allowed himself nine months to train and prepare for his channel swim. We worked together to devise suitable nutritional plans that would allow him to put the hours in with his training and achieve an optimal body composition, all while maintaining a full time job and family commitments.

“I believe after failing to complete Windermere two way, the decision to work with Aimee was central to succeeding twelve months later.”

Closer to the channel swim we focussed on pre event nutrition, and planned a strict timing schedule for suitable snacks during the event, which ended up lasting 17 hours 20 minutes. Other factors which we had to consider were ‘salt mouth’, taste fatigue, and practicing our strategies so that we had the confidence they would work. Through his thorough training and strict adherence to his nutritional plan he became the 1,947th person to ever swim the channel.

What an achievement well done Graham.
