My story

My interest in gut health started while working as a dietitian in the NHS with patients recovering from gut surgery.

Understanding how the digestive system works, how we absorb nutrients, and what happens when things become disrupted.

But over time, it became more personal.

A few years ago, within a short space of time, my mum had a stroke, my dad passed away, and I was going through my own medical investigations.

It was an intense period - and my gut reflected that.

What stood out wasn’t just the symptoms, but how inconsistent they were.

Some days felt manageable.
Other days, symptoms would build as the day went on - bloating, discomfort, a sense that things weren’t quite working properly.

And despite being an experienced dietitian, it wasn’t something that could be explained by food alone.

That experience shaped how I now approach gut health.

Approach

Gut symptoms rarely come down to one single cause.

Food plays a role, but it’s only one part of the picture.

Stress, sleep, daily routines, and hormonal changes -  particularly through midlife - all influence how the gut functions.

In practice, this means taking a broader view.

Looking at patterns over time.
Understanding what may be contributing.
And building a plan that is structured, but realistic.

This is what led me to create my RELIEF Method™. The aim isn’t to remove more foods or follow rigid rules - but to create consistency and reduce the day-to-day unpredictability.
